Nigerian singer and songwriter, Omawumi Megbele, has opened up about the pivotal role ace producer Cobhams Asuquo played in shaping her music career and helping her attain stardom.
Speaking in a recent interview, the talented vocalist recalled how meeting Cobhams during the early stages of her journey completely changed her life. According to Omawumi, Cobhams saw potential in her at a time when she was still trying to find her sound and identity as an artist.
“He believed in me even before I fully believed in myself,” she revealed. “Cobhams was instrumental in building my confidence as a musician. He didn’t just produce songs; he taught me how to express my emotions through music and stay authentic to my voice.”
Omawumi credited the award-winning producer for creating timeless hits that became defining moments in her career. She noted that songs like “In The Music” and “Bottom Belle” reflected the creative synergy they shared.
The singer also expressed deep gratitude for his mentorship and described Cobhams as “a musical genius who understands the soul of sound.”
Omawumi’s journey from West African Idols finalist to one of Nigeria’s most respected vocal powerhouses remains an inspiring story — one that she says would have been incomplete without Cobhams’ guidance and support.
