Iyabo Ojo’s recent comments shed more light on her unconventional yet deeply respectful relationship with music executive Paul Okoye, popularly known as Paulo. In the interview on TVC’s Your View, the popular Nollywood actress made it clear that marriage is not in the cards for them—a stance that challenges traditional expectations, especially in the Nigerian cultural context where formalizing a relationship through marriage is often seen as the norm.
Ojo emphasized the value of personal space and independence in their partnership. She shared that one of the keys to their successful relationship is mutual respect’s boundaries. For instance, she mentioned that whenever she feels the need to recharge or have some time to herself, she simply goes back to her own home. Paulo, she added, understands and respects that decision, which in turn strengthens their bond.
This kind of relationship dynamic reflects a growing trend among modern couples who prioritize emotional well-being, individuality, and freedom over societal pressure. It’s a testament to the fact that love and commitment can exist outside the bounds of traditional structures like marriage. Ojo and Paulo seem to be carving out a path that works uniquely for them, grounded in mutual respect, understanding, and breathing space.
She said, “Because of the way I work, I am such a workaholic, and he is also a workaholic. That Igbo man likes to work.
“For me, there are times when I want to be alone, and I just pack my bags and return to my house. We never fight over that because he understands.”
Clarifying the nature of their relationship, Iyabo added, “We don’t want marriage.”
